Roles We’re Looking to Fill
Right now, we have specific vacancies in the following areas:
Google Workspace Project Manager
We’ve recently secured a Not-for-Profit licence for Google Workspace and need help migrating off our current domestic setup. If you’ve managed a Workspace migration before, put your hand up. This is a project role with a defined scope — your expertise could save us hundreds of hours.
Grants Manager
NBVA qualifies for grants that can fund real improvements to equipment, programs, and facilities. Past success has included storage funding. This role is completely flexible — work from home, on the bus, whenever suits you. Your job is to spot opportunities and work with the Executive Committee to land the funding.
Facilities Coordinator (small honorarium: $825 per season)
Eight courts on one of the most famous beaches in the world need people who care about keeping them right. This role covers seasonal maintenance, court repairs, equipment organisation, and the kind of attention to detail that makes a real difference to the player experience.
Committee Positions — End of Season 2025/26
At the end of this season, most of the current Executive Committee will be stepping down.
These are people who’ve given a great deal to this organisation — some for many seasons. Their stepping down isn’t a gap. It’s a handover. And whoever takes these roles next will be shaping NBVA through one of the most significant moments in its 35-year history.

This started with three people who wanted to play volleyball.
In 1989, Stephen Hansen, Michael Gale, Carl Graham, and a small group of Northern Beaches volleyball enthusiasts decided that if they wanted a real home for the sport, they’d have to build it themselves. No corporate backing. No budget. No staff. Just people who loved the game enough to incorporate a not-for-profit association and keep showing up.
Thirty-five years later, that decision echoes in every tournament, every training session, and every rally on those eight permanent courts at Manly Beach.
NBVA exists because ordinary people chose to help. It has always worked that way.
Today the association runs more than 2,000 tournament entries a season, nearly 600 juniors through holiday camps and school programs, and weekly senior competitions on one of the most iconic beaches in the world. Behind all of it? A small team of people who care deeply about this community.
Carl Graham, one of NBVA’s original founding members, is still involved. There are Life Members who have given decades of service. There are committee members who’ve come back season after season not because they had to, but because this place means something to them.
We need more people like that. And we think you might be one of them.
What volunteers actually do
The committee member who stays up late rebuilding the draw. The person who fixes the nets before anyone arrives. The one handling the grants, managing the website, wrapping the prizes, responding to emails, ordering uniforms, taking photos, setting up for the end-of-season presentation. The parent who became a referee. The player who became a coach. The coach who became a president.
NBVA has no full-time staff. A small number of key operational roles receive a modest honorarium that falls well short of reflecting the hours invested. Everything else runs on community goodwill, and the range of what needs doing is wider than most people realise.
Whether your background is in tech, events, marketing, finance, coaching, or just showing up and pitching in, there is a role that fits you.
Why get involved?
Honestly? You’ll get more than you give.
You’ll meet people you wouldn’t have met anywhere else. You’ll be part of decisions that shape how this community plays. You’ll watch junior athletes grow into state representatives and know you had something to do with it. You’ll finish a tournament weekend exhausted and quietly proud of what just happened.
NBVA is building toward a permanent, world-class sand facility on the Northern Beaches. Courts, lighting, covered seating, school partnerships. That’s the long-term dream. The people who help run this organisation right now are the people who make that possible.
